AOC Mocked After Amazon CEO Donates $98.5 Million To Help Homeless
Amazon founder and richest person in the world, Jeff Bezos, announced that he just donated a total of $98.5 million to 32 organizations in 23 states that focus in helping homeless families. According to an article by Forbes, each organization received amounts ranging from $1.25 million to $5 million.
The CEO gave money through Bezos Day One Fund, the fund he launched back in September 2018. At launch, he pledged $2 billion with two areas of focus; help homeless families and creating Montessori-inspired preschools across the country.
After his donations were announced, Bezos filed with the Securities Exchange Commission that he is donating 56,702 shares of Amazon Stock, a whooping $99 million total price, to other nonprofits. The timing suggests that the stock donation were given to Day One Fund grant recipients. This year, Bezos also donated an extra million for organizations fighting homelessness, increasing the number of recipients which spans from Maryland and New York to Alaska and Hawaii.
On the other hand, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez shared her happiness on Twitter last Thursday. This is after the news that Amazon is scrapping its plan to build a new headquarters in queens. She tweeted
imagine what this big stupid jerk could have done to NYC ! thank god AOC kept him out! https://t.co/B2ShmrDPN9— GregGutfeld (@greggutfeld) November 24, 2019
The freshman Democratic lawmaker had been a vocal opponent of the deal to lure the online retail giant to Long Island City — which would’ve given Amazon $3 billion in city and state subsidies in exchange for bringing a projected 25,000 jobs to the area.
Amazon said it was pulling out of the plans because “a number of state and local politicians have made it clear that they oppose our presence and will not work with us.”
