In the video below, former President Obama delivers a virtual graduation speech to the Class of 2020. Except for a dig at President Trump’s handling of the pandemic, it was your standard commencement message: You are entering into adulthood. You’ll have to grow up faster (due to COVID-19). Do what you think is right. It’s your world now that adults have screwed it up so badly.

The words were likely written by a subordinate and simply read off of a teleprompter.

Obama read:

What is new is that so much of your generation has woken up to the fact that the status quo needs fixing; that the old ways of doing things don’t work; and that it doesn’t matter how much money you make if everyone around you is hungry and sick.

If the world’s going to get better, it’s going to be up to you… Nobody can tell you anymore that you should be waiting your turn. Nobody can tell you anymore ‘this is how it’s always been done.’ More than ever, this is your moment—your generation’s world to shape.

Those on the left widely praised Obama’s performance. Disgraced newsman Dan Rather found it deeply moving. In fact, after watching the address, he thinks he finally understands Obamagate. Rather tweeted that “It’s the scandal of having a president being able to speak with empathy, humor, insight, inspiration and in complete and coherent sentences.”

(Rather’s description is the polar opposite of the current presumptive Democratic nominee.)

Clearly, he implies that the reason we accuse Obama of wrongdoing is because we’re envious that he is so gifted.

Actually, Dan, we accuse Obama of wrongdoing because a great deal of evidence supports this claim.

And a well-read seven-minute address to college graduates that was mediocre at best does not change anything.

Besides, we remember Obama on the occasions when he was forced to speak without a teleprompter. Suddenly, that smooth, articulate voice dissolves into a stumbling, bumbling mess.
