California Shutters Veterans Home As It Gives Away $75 Million To Illegal Aliens
If you ever truly wondered where how Democrats really feel about our country, you can take a hint from California Gov. Gavin Newsom.
As his state reels financially from a loss of revenue thanks to an order he issued shuttering ‘non-essential’ businesses during the coronavirus pandemic, Newsom is now looking to slash his 2021 budget.
Fair enough. Democrats aren’t generally known to be fiscally responsible, as evidenced by all of the blue states currently broke or becoming that way thanks to years of (penson) mismanagement.
But Newsom’s budget-cutting priorities seem to be all screwed up or, at least, we think so. Why? Because we consider men and women who fought for our country to be infinitely more important to our society than people who broke our laws to get in our country.
As reported by The Daily Press, Newsom’s budget cuts for next fiscal year include funding for a veterans home in Barstow:
The shuttering of the veterans home here is part of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s fiscal blueprint meant to alleviate the financial hit California has taken amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Released on Thursday, Newsom’s revised budget proposed to “initiate the closure” of the Veterans Home of California-Barstow and a one-year delay for realignment at VHC-Chula Vista and Yountville.
If approved, the changes would net state General Fund savings in Fiscal Year 2020-21 of $2.6 million, according to the revised budget. Long-term savings that would result from the Barstow facility’s closure are expected to be $14 million annually.
Now, as if that isn’t bad enough, Newsom’s administration is set to spend an astounding $75 million providing coronavirus ‘relief’ to illegal immigrants.
The Epoch Times reports:
$1,000 in assistance per household. A household is defined as persons who live and purchase and prepare meals together.
To qualify, people must provide proof that they are illegal immigrants. They must also show they’re not eligible for federal COVID-19-related assistance and have experienced hardship as a result of the pandemic, according to the state’s Department of Social Services.
Some 150,000 illegal immigrants are expected to receive financial assistance. If that projection holds, $75 million would be distributed.
Yes, that’s right, Mr. and Mrs. America. Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom would rather pay off illegal aliens in a blatant act of political pandering than keep a home open for veterans who risked their lives for him and his state.
“This is a state that steps up to help those in need, regardless of status,” Newsom said in April when he announced the payments, no doubt already working on finalizing his budget cuts that would include a veterans home in Barstow.
That said, Barstow city officials aren’t giving up on the veterans.
“The City of Barstow will write a letter to Gov. Newsom pointing out the necessity of the Barstow Veterans Home,” Mayor Julie Hackbarth-McIntyre told the Daily Press. “We’ll also encourage our surrounding cities, the County of San Bernardino and local citizens to do the same.”
Good luck with that. Maybe if the California veterans home were filled with some other country’s veterans, Newsom would give a damn.
